A Deep Dive Into Consciousness
An estimated 3000 people die yearly to suicide in Australia alone. Roughly 6 men and 2 woman daily. It is also the leading cause of death for 15-49 year olds. The hardest pill to swallow about these numbers is that every single one of them. Could have been prevented. More importantly, they didn't not want to live, but simply to not feel what they are feeling anymore. The overthinking, the stress, the sinking feeling, unworthiness. Most if not all of us have felt a type of way at some point in our lives. But what can we do to make these statistics roll backwards? I am just a kid currently living in Tasmania a place where status and popularity seem meaningless compared to the mainland of our country, but I took on a risk and I started Esoterica IX. A place where I want to allow people to feel at peace when browsing, engaging or shopping a product with us. Feeling like you are apart of something. But it's not enough. At the end of the day I am trying to make a living off something I believe in. But what if I could do more? Even just something a little more. As someone who is experiencing the lowest I have in some time, while also having to lose my closest friend to suicide a few years ago, I want to take action. 30 Days of doing 1 small disciplinary thing a day. It can be the smallest things that make a difference and I feel if I can push through and influence people going through something to do something that can build mental strength, resilience or even just make them feel better for doing something. Potentially saving a life. Even one. Then I know, weather my business succeeds or fails. I made a difference to someone's life for the better. And you can't put a price on that.
Small Defeats in Accumulation
It's vital you want to set clear, small but achievable goals. Reflect on which areas of your life you want to enhance. However it is super easy to fall backwards in your mind.
- "Wake up at this time" - Doesn't wake up at that time
- "Work out at this time" - Doesn't work out at that time
- "Don't eat that" - Eats it
- "Don't drink that" - Drinks it
It's these small defeats that accumulate over time that send us spiralling.
While harsh but true, you want to start somewhere as useless as yourself. Everyone wakes up in the morning. Start there. It can be as little as not hitting snooze on your alarm. Or not checking your phone immediately after waking up. then the next day pushing a little bit more, get up out of bed before you have time to think. Open your curtains and make your bed, it's about finding achievements in these small things that inspire us to want more of it and being eventually able to do these things without thinking about it as it becomes routine building a stronger you.
The Study of Discipline & Mental Strength
Discipline is not merely about following rules. it's about creating a framework that enables us to achieve our goals and maintain a sense of purpose. When applied to mental health, discipline can help us form constructive habits, build emotional strength, and enhance overall well being.
The link between discipline and mental health is strong. Studies indicate that people who practice self-discipline are less likely to suffer from stress, anxiety, or depression. For instance, a 2022 survey showed that 78% of participants who kept a daily journal reported lower stress levels. You Might be thinking, "well journaling seems so small and trivial". That's exactly the point. By committing to a series of small disciplined routines over 30 days, you actively work towards improving your mental health.
